A Harlem resident made more than 200 complaints of NYPD and police officer personal vehicles blocking the sidewalks and bike lanes around his neighborhood precinct house in March but found his reports went largely ignored and made no difference in the danger the cars pose to pedestrians.
The multi-agency approach to tackling long-standing safety problems is now a regular part of the city’s response to street and highway fatalities, a top NYPD official says.
NYPD Chief of Transportation Kim Royster said there is a strong correlation between the “earlier onset of darkness and traffic injuries and fatalities.”
