quality of life, space, warm weather. we did look at other cities. and miami was the one that provided all of that in the last hassle-free way. reporter: sonya savlani, her husband vahab and her son moved here from new jersey six months ago. another factor for us was low taxes. that was a big draw. reporter: last year, florida brought in over 315,000 new residents, a 2% population jump in just a year. the second biggest magnet for new residents, texas, attracting over 230,000 people from other states. losing the most population? california saw over 340,000 residents leave last year. new york lost nearly 300,000 people. building a community is not as easy in florida as it is in new york. reporter: that s where desiree perez and her family lived until two years ago.
