a pittsburg man is behind bars after allegedly holding a fast food worker hostage. pleasant hill police got the call about 5:30 this morning from a worker at a jack in the box. investigators say 41-year-old samuel guerrero came in brandishing a knife and tried to rob the police. they evacuated ads many people s they could but he took one employee hostage. we set up our perimeter and started to do our tactical process. less than an hour later on his own the suspect came outside of the restaurant and he was taken into custody. the pittsburg man is now facing charges of robbery, false imprisonment and kidnapping for ransom. no one was hurt in the incident. here s a live look oversan jose where the sky was sunny and clear today, but we are in for a chilly night. let s check in with meteorologist rob mayeda who has the hour-by-hour forecast. rob. you can see the clear skies over san jose. interestingly enough, san jose one of the cooler spots today, even in the sunshine.

coma. today police have around the bay area will take part in an emergency response training exercise, it s called urban shield, involving multiple drills by 32 different law enforcement agencies. officer will rappel down the side of a 12 story building, and also practice a scenario in which they d have to rescue a dignitary. starting in a week and a half, c.h.p. officers will help boost patrols in high crime areas of:00 land, as part of what s called operation impact. they re still working out the details like who will pay for the extra patrols. similar deployment is planned for stockton. new this morning, people living on treasure island are still without water service. a water main broke at around 5:00 last night, causing this water disruption. the san fortunes co public utilities commission say they are working on the problem. now once water is flowing again, people are being told to boil it before drinking. yerba buena island wasn t affected. in today s campaign 2
but not everyone is so sure that s a good idea. the best thing to do would be to wait until the retrofit is complete, then open the bridge. reporter: but experts and transportation officials have repeatedly insisted that the real threat to public safety is keeping drivers on the old eastern span, which remains vulnerable to an earthquake. the existing bridge is the one folks ought to be worried about and that s the one they shouldn t be trusting. reporter: the oversight committee agreed that the bridge will open the morning of september 3rd with little fanfare, a simple chain cutting ceremony and potentially a larger scale celebration next year. the temporary fix will be going in this weekend. it should take only about a day to install it. just to give you an idea of how quickly this whole process is moving along, within about an hour of that unanimous vote happening, we saw that caltrans had already put signs up along the approach to the bay bridge, announcing the
