Magic of the FA Cup sees Kingdom link with giant-killers Chorley Town

Killarney could be preparing this summer for a very special visit from Chorley FC and their manager Jamie Vermiglio following an unexpected link with the town and the now famous FA Cup clash at the weekend. Chorley are managed by the former Killarney Celtic player who steered a giant-killing upset of Wayne Rooney s Derby County at the weekend. Jamie Vermiglio became the talk of the world s oldest football competition after his unfashionable Chorley FC side knocked out Championship side Derby County in a spectacular upset. It ranked as a shock of seismic proportions - even allowing for the fact Derby fielded an understrength side due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

From Killarney to Anfield? Chorley boss is dreaming big

Updated / Sunday, 10 Jan 2021 12:12 Jamie Vermiglio: If you can organise it, I d like Liverpool away. Chorley manager Jamie Vermiglio is dreaming of Anfield after his part-time side claimed an unlikely place in the last 32 of the FA Cup. The National League North side took advantage of extraordinary circumstances to sink Championship Derby 2-0 on Saturday and reach the fourth round for the first time in their 138-year history. Four divisions had separated the clubs when the draw was made but a Covid-19 outbreak at the Rams dramatically tipped the tie in favour of the experienced part-timers from Lancashire. With manager Wayne Rooney and his entire first-team squad forced into self-isolation, Derby needed to draw on their youth squads simply to fulfil the fixture at Victory Park.

MEK Galaxy's universal appeal ideal for online documentary

Ambition won t take you all the way in sport, but you won t get off the ground without it. At Mid and East Kerry (MEK) Galaxy Football Club, they re not short of ambition, and while they re not at the finish line yet, the desire to get there gives them a better chance than most. And there s a pragmatism about them as well. Their seniors were relegated last season from Kerry soccer s top tier, but the fact that they were there at all at this young stage in their existence is what matters. They know that the season just gone was as much about learning as anything else and they did plenty of that while still making most games competitive, all in the knowledge that the cameras were on them - literally - thanks to a new four part documentary on their journey which will be screened over the Christmas period.
