BATON ROUGE - LSU s Board of Supervisors chose a new university president Thursday, ending its search in historic fashion.
Thursday evening, the board named Dr. William Tate IV the new president of the LSU system. He comes from the University of South Carolina, where he served as provost and executive vice president of academic affairs.
The SEC confirmed Tate is the first African-American university president at not just LSU but the whole Southeastern Conference. Tate acknowledged the milestone during his introductory news conference Thursday.

BATON ROUGE - Louisiana State University s search for its next system President is poised to reach a conclusion as the Board of Supervisors meets Thursday.
During the May 6 meeting, the university s Board of Supervisors will hear from each of the three candidates who are aiming to secure the coveted leadership role.
According to LSU s website, each presidential hopeful will deliver a 90 minute or less presentation and then engage in and question and answer session.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The LSU Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, May 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
According to its website, LSU says the three presidential candidates aiming to become the universityâs next leader will speak during Thursdayâs board meeting.
The finalists are:
Kelvin Droegemeier, Ph.D., Former Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) (2021) United States Federal Government
James (Jim) Henderson, D.M., System President and Chief Executive Officer University of Louisiana System
