A division bench of the Court is slated to decide on a case filed by X Corp (Twitter) questioning the Central government's orders to block certain tweets in 2021-22, which was later confirmed by a review committee.
The government's blocking orders, which were upheld by a review committee, impinges on X's right to provide a platform for free speech, counsel for the social media giant argued.
"Best is to ban social media. Lot of good will come. Today, school-going children are so addicted to it," the Karnataka High Court remarked while hearing an appeal by X Corp (formerly Twitter) concerning blocking orders.
The Karnataka High Court has stayed the single judge order against Twitter until the next hearing an the appeal filed by X Corp, provided that the platform deposits ₹25 lakhs in a week.
X Corp has also challenged the whopping ₹50 lakh fine imposed on it by the single-judge when it raised genuine concerns over the legality of the Central government's orders to block 1,354 URLs.
