17 candidates in the run for 11 Senate seats of Sindh As many candidates withdrew nomination papers on Thursday PHOTO: FILE KARACHI: Seventeen candidates from different political parties will be contesting the upcoming Senate election from Sindh, after the withdrawal of the nomination papers of as many nomination papers. Of the contesting candidates, 11 belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as many to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and one each to the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). The candidates will contest the polls on 11 seats of Sindh in the Senate. Among those whose nomination papers have been withdrawn, three are from the PPP, nine from the PTI, four from the MQM-P and one from the GDA.

Senate candidates to affirm tickets not bought ECP Sindh issues revised list of candidates for upcoming polls PHOTO: FILE KARACHI: A written oath highlighting the process of affirmation from the candidates contesting the Senate polls that they had not paid money to acquire tickets from political parties, had not engaged and were not involved in illegal activities and horse trading, has been introduced for the very first time in Pakistan. The affidavits comprise of five stipulations. The candidate has to first mention the seat they are contesting from. Second, they have to affirm that they haven t paid money to acquire the ticket to contest the election or paid the voters directly or indirectly to seek their votes. The candidate has to affirm that they are not involved in any violation of laws, illegal activities or corruption. Senate race heats up as nominees file papers ECP extends date for submission of papers till Feb 15 ISLAMABAD: A total of 78 candidates of all political parties, including the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, on Saturday filed their nomination papers with the Election Commission of Pakistan for the Senate elections scheduled for March 3. Earlier in the day, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry tweeted a list containing names of 20 candidates, including Abdul Qadir for Balochistan, but later, Special Assistant to the PM on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill tweeted that Qadir has been replaced with Zahoor Agha. “Senate ticket from Balochistan is being withdrawn from Qadir Sahib and being issued to Zahoor Agha. The captain always listens to his party workers,” Gill tweeted.
