According to numbers from Statistics Canada, 22 per cent of Nova Scotians were living in food insecurity in 2022. That's up from 17.7% in the year before.
With the cost of groceries soaring, many are going to food banks for support. Feed Nova Scotia says it is already experiencing the extra pressure as food insecurity in the province increases.
The province says for the 2022-23 year, the Heating Assistance Rebate Program will increase the rebate to $1,000 per household, up from a $200 payment.
