Around the World with Tea - Africa | #FortnumsTea

Ethiopia The tea here is grown down in the south of the country, near the Kenyan border, and shares a similar climate and terrain, meaning quality can be very high. An area to watch, producing strong, full-bodied teas with their own idiosyncratic notes. Kenya Tea was first planted here in 1904 by the British Caine brothers, from seedlings taken from Darjeeling. Yup, another relic of Empire, but for once, a positive one, because tea thrived in the cool climate and the wonderfully rich, red volcanic soil of Kenya’s Highlands, sitting on both sides of the Great Rift Valley. It’s the third largest producer of tea in the world, the international leader in CTC black tea, as well as producing a small amount of white and green tea. And, as a percentage of what it produces, it’s the world’s largest tea exporter.

KWS Ordered to Pay Family Ksh4 Million Compensation

KWS Ordered to Pay Family Ksh4 Million Compensation Director General KWS, John Waweru during a Tv interview on March 3,2021 Twitter The Kenya Wildlife Service(KWS) was ordered to pay the family of Josphat Karii Njeru over Ksh 4 million compensation fee after he was killed by a stray Elephant on May 1, 2017. “This court entered judgement for the appellant at Ksh 5 million, less 20 per cent liability that reduced the figure by one million. The appellant is therefore awarded Ksh 4 million-plus special damages of Ksh 45,000,” read the judgement. The decision was made by Justice Robert Kipkoech Limo sitting at the High Court in Chuka. The judge set aside a decision made earlier by the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Marimati dismissing a suit by Jediel Muriithi Njeru, who is the legal representative of Karii’s family.
