KUCHING (Bernama): Serian is the third district in Sarawak to be hit by the third wave of floods when 55 residents in two villages had to be evacuated since Wednesday (Feb 4) afternoon, bringing the total number of evacuees in the state to 140 people.
According to a report by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, 32 of the flood victims in the district are from six families in Kampung Slabi Entukuh, about 70km from Kuching city, and they are being accommodated at a relief centre in a community hall in the village.
There were also 23 victims, comprising five families, who were evacuated from Kampung Melayu Tebakang Serian, about 72km from Kuching, to the relief centre at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Tebakang, which was opened at 4pm Wednesday.
