Police went to an apartment building around 8 p.m. in order to apprehend a 44-year-old man wanted for second-degree murder, according to an SIU spokesperson.
K-9 Kuno was conducting a search of a school building looking for a burglar when he showed signs of heat stroke. Kuno’s handler reportedly took him back to his vehicle and tried to hydrate him, but Kuno collapsed.
Officers were attending scheduled active shooter training at the school around 2 p.m. when K-9 Chase was found unresponsive in the patrol vehicle by K-9 Officer Neill, Cobb County Police said.
