Dear Prudence: My in-laws are Holocaust deniers.

Dear Prudence, My husband’s parents have always been on the fringe end of conservative, but it’s never caused an issue with us, because we don’t live nearby and only see them once every two years or so. But in the past few years, they’ve become even more counterculture they’re very into QAnon and other conspiracy theories, they’ve become openly racist, and they hate masks and vaccines. Recently, I found out that they’ve embraced Holocaust denial. I don’t know why this was the final straw, but I don’t want my children to have a relationship with these people anymore. My husband doesn’t know what to do, but he feels that cutting them off is too much. What should we do?

Sweet-and-Sour Braised Lamb with Tamarind

If there are cuisines of which we are woefully uncultivated, they are surely African ones. (Ten Speed Press), written with best-selling cookbook author Julia Turshen. Hassan has gathered stories along with 75 recipes from bibis (grandmothers) from eight African nations: South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Comoros, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and Eritrea. You can’t help but be touched by the personal stories and soulful recipes, which might otherwise go unrecorded and be lost for all time. These are homey dishes simple, satisfying, and with deep meaning. Enjoy everything from “Kicha” (Eritrean flatbread) and “Suugo Suqaar” (a beef pasta dish from Somalia) to “Grilled Lobster Tails with Vanilla Sauce” (from Comoros) and “Basboosa” (semolina cakes from Kenya).
