Wyoming Arts Council now accepting applications for 2023 Folk & Traditional Arts Mentoring Project Grants

Wyoming Arts Council announces free Creative Aging training for nonprofit arts organizations

(Statewide, WY) – In partnership with Lifetime Arts, the Wyoming Arts Council is now accepting applications from Wyoming non-profit arts organizations to participate in a free virtual training on best practices in Creative Aging. Wyoming has a growing community of older adults. One effective way to address adverse health effects associated with aging is with intentional arts engagement. This field is referred to as Creative Aging. As an extension of a partnership between the Wyoming Arts Council, the Wyoming State Library, and Lifetime Arts, training will be provided to arts organizations throughout the state where they will learn innovative direct arts programming for older adults. Earlier in the year, similar training was provided to librarians and teaching artists across the state.

Grant applications open for Folk & Traditional Arts Mentoring Project

The application is available online or contact the Arts Council to be sent a paper copy. Advertisement Folk Art Mentoring Project Grants are designed to assist masters of folk and traditional arts in passing on their knowledge to eager apprentices from their community through the natural process of in-person, hands-on instruction. A master artist mentors their apprentice over time, in order to advance the skills of the apprentice in their traditional art form. Projects must occur between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 for no less than six months. The grant amount is $3,000 ($2,300 for master artist honorarium and $700 for materials and/or travel). Applications will be reviewed by a panel and up to four projects will be selected for funding. Applications are made jointly between master and apprentice.

Officials tap Latham Wood as next folklorist for Four Rivers Cultural Center

ONTARIO Oregon Folklife Network partners with Four Rivers Cultural Center and the High Desert Museum out of Bend to support staff folklorists who sustain folklife programming across this large and diverse state. The next folklorist to come to assist the Cultural Center with coordinating the annual Tradition Keepers Folklife Festivals this year and in 2022 will be Latham Wood. “We are excited to announce that Latham T. Wood, a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology at the University of Oregon and former OFN graduate employee, has accepted a folklorist position at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario,” reads a news release from Oregon Folklife Network. “During his time with OFN, Latham coordinated our 2018-19 Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, working with many former TAAP masters to pilot the first of what we hope will be many artist mentorship gatherings.”
