The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club was organized in October 1923 by Mrs. W. R. Kilby and Mrs. P. H. Eve at the home of Mrs. Kilby on Linden Avenue in Suffolk, according to Elizabeth M. Gobbel, a charter member who wrote a history of the book club in 1967.
An assortment of guns had all been bought back from Durham residents by the sheriff’s office April 9 in the county’s first-ever “Bull City Gun Buy Back.”
