ROYAL CITY A pair of underground tanks are causing some financial headaches for the city of Royal City, the council heard at its March 5 meeting.
“When the city purchased the Grant County property that’s adjacent to (City Hall), it came with underground storage tanks for gas and diesel, and they’re large,” said Public Works Director John Lasen. “They used those tanks not just for the people that operated out of that barn, but for all of southern Grant County services. They’re 4,000 gallons apiece. They’re far bigger than we would ever use.”

ROYAL CITY The Royal City City Council swore in three council members at its meeting Tuesday evening, all returning after the November elections.
Hector Rodriguez, who holds Position 3, Perla Garcia, who was reelected to Position 2, and Ryan Piercy, who retained the Position 4 seat in the November election by a single vote, all raised their right hands and swore to uphold the Constitution and carry out the duties of their office. Deputy City Clerk Sherrie Rodriguez administered the oaths.
The water main replacement project is moving along slowly but surely, Public Works Director John Lasen told the council. The upgrades are underway on the west end of town, Lasen said, starting with Hemlock, Grape and Calla streets and moving on to Calla Loop, Balsam Street and Royal Avenue.
ROYAL CITY The Royal City City Council learned some things about the process of annexation at its Aug. 1 meeting.
The discussion was occasioned by an application by Gerald Brown, owner of Golden West Farms, LLC, for the city to annex two parcels of Golden West land, one 70 acres and the other 7.7 acres south of the city limits. The council set aside part of the meeting as a public hearing on the petition.
