Thomas Mortell, partner at Hawley Troxell, is the new 2021 chairman of the board of directors for the Boise Metro Chamber. Mortell replaces Charlene Maher
, president and CEO of Blue Cross of Idaho, who will stay on as immediate past chair. The Chamber also announced the selection of Joel Poppen, senior vice president of legal affairs and general counsel at Micron Technology as the chair-elect of the Board. Poppen will take over as chair in 2022.
Mortell is the head of Hawley Troxell’s health law group and has experience in construction-related litigation. He also is the head of the firm’s board of partners and has spent the last 20 years representing Idaho’s businesses. It is an affront to all that we are, the values we hold dear, to the memories of so many people in this community and this country who fought against that very topic, and of course, and of course to the people in this community who it targets.
The mayor was joined by other local leaders, who also spoke out against the vandalism.
Dan Prinzing, the Executive Director of the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights, said the incident left him questioning whether the hateful sentiments were shared by the wider community. But he said he was heartened at the number of people who reached out in support, brought flowers to the site, and openly renounced the anti-Semetic vandalism.
