Former prosecutor faces felony misconduct charges related to alleged inappropriate relationship

A former Michigan state prosecutor will be charged with two counts of felony misconduct in office after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a victim in a criminal sexual conduct case.
Brian Kolodziej, an assistant attorney general who was hired in September 2018 to prosecute sexual assault cases, was placed on administrative leave and then resigned in fall 2019 after details of the reported relationship surfaced. The attorney general’s office launched an internal investigation into his cases.
Christopher Becker, the Kent County prosecuting attorney who was appointed as the special prosecutor in the investigation, announced the charges against Kolodziej on Thursday but declined to offer additional details regarding his alleged misconduct.

Former state sex crimes prosecutor Brian Kolodziej has been charged with two counts of felony misconduct in office, the Kent County prosecutor announced Thursday, in connection with his handling of a college rape case at Central Michigan University.
Kent County prosecutor Chris Becker was appointed special prosecutor in the Kolodziej investigation in September 2019. Kolodziej had resigned his role as an Assistant Attorney General hired to prosecute sexual assault cases, after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with one of the victims in the CMU case where he was the lead prosecutor.
The Michigan State Police had launched an investigation into Kolodziej’s handling of that case and others - notably, an Oakland County case involving alleged child abuse by the child’s relatives.

Chris Becker, Kent County prosecutor, announced Thursday afternoon that he plans to file the two five-year felony charges sometime soon against Brian Kolodziej for his conduct prosecuting Ian Elliott in the Rachel Wilson case.
Elliott was accused of raping Wilson at his apartment shortly after the two met at The Cabin on Aug. 31, 2016.

Becker spoke in the vaguest terms about what specifically Kolodziej did, and said he didn t know when formal charges would be filed. He did say that the case will go through the same Isabella County courts where first the county and then the state prosecuted Elliott.
