SUTHERLIN — Ford’s Pond will continue to be updated, thanks in part to $20,000 in grants that were received recently by Sutherlin Community Development.
Itâs been a project two years in the making, with many more to go.
Sutherlin FFA members and volunteers with the Friends of Fordâs Pond have spent the past two years preparing, planting and growing oak trees. This month, over 20 volunteers planted 400 of those trees across 58 acres on the western slopes above Fordâs Pond in an effort to restore oak savanna habitat to the area.
âIt was fun and nice to see FOFP and Sutherlin FFA partnering to better the community,â said Paige Edmonson, a freshman of the Sutherlin FFA chapter.
Jim Houseman, the president of Friends of Fordâs Pond was very impressed with the outcome of the planting.
