hi, thanks so much for joining me today. i m jessica dean in washington, d.c. in for fredricka whitfield. we begin with a major shift in memphis. just a day after video shows the brutal police beating of tyre nichols, the city police department announcing it is permanently deactivating the scorpion unit. all five officers charged in nichols death were part of the movement and after protests around the country demanding it be dissolved. the attorney for tyre nichols s family ben crump telling cnn that it is a positive step but the work is far from over. in communities of color, they often have different types of police than many of white brothers and sisters have in their community and this video illustrates that it is this culture that said it doesn t matter whether the police officers are black, hispanic or white, that it is somehow allowed for you to tramp on the constitutional rights of certain citizens from certain ethnicities and certain communities and we have ....
i m jessica dean in washington, d.c. in today for fredicka whitfield. a major move by the memphis police department. less than 24 hours after the release of the video showing the brutal building of tyre nichols, the s.c.o.r.p.i.o.n. unit will be disbanded. this move coming after nichols family and protesters around the country demanded the unit be dissolved. cnn s isabelle rosales has more on these developments. what are you learning? reporter: the police chief cerelyn davis, in a statement she put out, talking about how it was disbanded, she touted the quality work of this unit. clearly there s been tensions between the community and this s.c.o.r.p.i.o.n. unit. what happened here is the police chief, she met with members that were not involved in the beating of tyre nichols and determined it was in the best interest of the community to disband. this goes to the direct wis activists and the family attorney as well. here is what we know about the s.c.o.r.p.i.o.n. unit ....

hi, everyone. thanks so much for joining me in washington, d.c. i m jessica dean in for fredricka whitfield today. a city and nation in shock. hours after memphis police released videos of the brutal killing of tyre nichols. the full videos released last night show five former memphis police officers repeatedly beating the 29-year-old. and i want to warn you. what we re about to show you is extremely graphic. the videos document nichols being pulled over earlier this month for alleged reckless driving. place are seen yanking him from the car, chasing, kicking him, using pepper spray and batons. nichols, who is unarmed, crying for miss his mother at one poin. he died from his injuries three days later in the hospital. those videos are sparking largely peaceful protests across the country overnight and into today. earlier this week the five officers were charged with second-degree murder and now after this video has come out, two officers from a different department who w ....
