An appeals court panel has sided with the Pulaski County Special School District and vacated a judgment in favor of an assistant superintendent who sued the district after she was passed over for the superintendent position in 2018.
George W. Branch, Jr., 85 of Camden, AR, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at his home with his family by his side as was his request. He was born September 29, 1937 in Pine Bluff to the late George Senior and Ada Gray Branch. George graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1953 where he lettered in Football and Basketball. George attended Southern State University (SAU) in Magnolia on a basketball and football scholarship and later transferred to Arkansas A&M in Monticello where he also participated in All Sports and was a 4 sport letterman. George was very young when graduating high school. He played his first college football against Arkansas State at the age of 15.
On Aug. 9, patrons in the Watson Chapel School District will go to the polls to decide if they want to lay some additional real estate and personal property taxes on themselves in order to pay for a new high school.
After two lengthy special called board meetings, the Watson Chapel School Board voted 4-2 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Andrew Curry on Thursday, one day before the first anniversary of his hire.
