CLEVELAND, Ohio Evan H. Turner played a critical role as director of the Cleveland Museum of Art from 1983 to 1993 by opening up an institution then known for artistic excellence but also for its frosty elitism and tepid enthusiasm for contemporary art.
Turner, who died Dec. 17 at his home in Philadelphia of congestive heart failure at age 93, according to his family, came to the Cleveland museum as a veteran director. ....
