wilmington, north carolina the conditions began to deteriorate. we have seen relatively mild conditions virtually all day long, not to say there is no danger here. the storm did spawn of some tornadoes as early as 6:00 a.m. today. some of those smaller tornadoes are snapping off trees, tree limbs and uprooting trees but no major damage beyond that. again as of 8:00 p.m. tonight with the storm still about 70 miles directly to the south the wind speeds have begun to pick up. although it is sporadic, it lulls into a period of relative calmness and then picks up to what i would say is 40, maybe 5. it s expected to get much worse than that. upwards of a million people have been evacuated from barrier islands in north and south carolina. city officials here are still warning residents that speeds could get up to 105 miles per hour. we are on the night shift, we ll be here all night long waiting until the high tide here at 4:5. we ll be watching. hope you will be too. back to you.
