More parents turning to homeschooling instead of remote instruction

By Ken Delaney Dec 11, 2020 2:57 AM DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In the midst of most school districts in the state doing some form, if not all, virtual learning for their students, the number of Michigan families choosing to homeschool has increased substantially from last year, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press. Over 600 homeschools are registered with the state this year, more than double the 290 from last school year. But officials say the tally of homeschools is likely far greater, as registration is not required. One mother the newspaper interviewed, Jeanetta Riley, decided to join the ranks after seeing her daughter s learning decline with the remote instruction provided by her public school.
