A wildlife biologist with New Hampshire Fish and Game has said that concerned citizens in a Jaffrey neighborhood have little to worry about regarding fisher sightings over the past month.
Patrick Tate, who is also the leader of the furbearer project, said that fishers or fisher cats as some call them do not pose much of a threat to humans, saying they typically do not go after prey larger than them.
“Their reputation in folklore is more aggressive than they are,” said Tate, who said a male fisher can weigh up to 12 pounds, while a female can weigh up to six pounds. “When I see wildlife like that, I feel blessed… they are elusive creatures.”
