US Army fields first IM-SHORAD to Germany

US Army fields first IM-SHORAD to Germany 26 April 2021 by Ashley Roque The US Army has begun fielding the new Initial Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) system and the first weapon is now in Ansbach, Germany with the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. Based around the Stryker A1 vehicle, the service announced the weapon fielding on 23 April and said it is part of a larger plan to field 144 systems to four battalions beginning this year. IM-SHORAD is designed to down aerial threats such as unmanned aircraft systems, as well as rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. In its current configuration, the vehicle includes Leonardo DRS’s mission equipment package with Moog’s Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) turret. The RIwP for this weapon includes a modified M299 launcher for two Longbow Hellfire missiles, a Raytheon Stinger Vehicle Universal Launcher (SVUL) to hold four surface-to-air missiles, Northrop Grumman’s XM914 30 mm Bushmaster Ch
