Preble County Common Pleas hears drug, breaking and entering cases Preble County Common Pleas Court heard cases involving drugs and breaking and entering on Wednesday, April 7. Anthony Baker | The Register-Herald EATON Preble County Common Pleas Court heard cases involving drugs and theft on Wednesday, April 7. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided. Joseph H. Hodapp, 31, was sentenced on charges of breaking and entering and tampering with coin machines. Hodapp’s previous record includes charges of theft, escape, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of heroin. Defense attorney James Van Zant asked that his client be sentenced to an outpatient substance abuse treatment program, citing an employment opportunity in Chicago that might be lost if he were sentenced to inpatient treatment. Bruns was dubious, however.

Human-caused brush fire this weekend in Pine-Strawberry

It was a busy weekend for firefighters in Pine-Strawberry with multiple brush fires reported. About 1 p.m. Saturday, Pine-Strawberry Fire Department firefighters responded to a brush fire at the west end of Strawberry. A homeowner using oxygen and an acetylene torch to set fire to gopher holes inadvertently set fire to their yard, said Gila County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jamie Garrett. On a day with reported winds gusting up to 20 mph, the fire jumped the property and ran through the dry grass into the Tonto National Forest, near the junction of Forest Road 428 and Fossil Creek Road. PSFD firefighters caught the fire at about 1 acre, with one engine and one water tinder. Forest Service personnel arrived with more equipment and manpower.
