Costs of pork and pork products set to rise

(File photo) As some food prices continue to rise across the island, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has announced that that the prices of pork and pork products are expected to also go up. The ministry, in a release on Thursday, said the increases are expected to be between 13 and 20 per cent. According to the ministry, earlier that day, the President of the Jamaica Pig Farmers’ Association (JPFA), Annabel Williams, in a radio interview, made a statement that may have been misconstrued to mean that price increases would likely be about 80 per cent, which the ministry has sought to clarify.

Champs!  The National Stadium in Kingston will come alive this week with the 110 th staging of the ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championship from Tuesday, May 11 to Saturday, May 15. This year’s staging of the most anticipated track and field event for high school students will see a sharp reduction in participants due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Only 970 athletes representing 80 schools are eligible to compete, a far cry from the 2,700 who competed at the 2019 edition. The competition was abandoned in 2020 because of the pandemic.
