The British pianist opens this concert with Busoni’s arrangement of Bach’s D minor Chaconne which was performed by Busoni himself at the opening of the Hall almost 120 years ago. Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier. Vladimir Jurowski conducts Barrie Kosky’s new staging with Marlis Petersen (Die Marschallin), Samantha Hankey (Octavian), Katharina Konradi (Sophie), Christof Fischesser (Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau), and Johannes Martin Kränzle (Herr von Faninal). The new production will be performed in the arrangement by Eberhard Kloke which transcribes the score to match the orchestration of Strauss’s opera Ariadne auf Naxos. Christmas Oratorio. Ensemble Resonanz presents Bach s Christmas Oratorio as Hausmusik among friends. With a small cast and no large choir, the ensemble has arranged 30 arias, recitatives, choruses, and chorales from Bach s masterpiece in its own version. The score remains untouched, but electric guitar and Hammond organ sound in the continuo, there’s only one trumpet, and the whole ensemble joins in the chorales. View here.
