A MAN drove with the mummified body of his partner on a 1,000-mile road trip from Spain to Italy, police said.
The driver, 66, was arrested after a 20-mile high-speed chase down the wrong side of a motorway in Catalonia, Spain, after skipping a police border checkpoint in France.

It is believed the man and his terminally-ill partner had planned a final road trip together, but the Galician man carried on travelling even after his lover died.

An investigation has been launched after a man drove the wrong way down a highway in Spain with a dead body in the passenger seat. The unnamed motorist, 66, was arrested after he was involved in a crash close to the town of Girona in the northeast of the country.
When officers arrived at the scene of the crash and looked inside his vehicle they found the body of an elderly man in an advanced state of decomposition, which was covered with a blanket and strapped into the front passenger seat using the belt.

A man who was stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road in Catalonia was found to have a dead body in the front passenger seat.
Police made the grim discovery after the 66-year-old suddenly turned around at the checkpoint between Spain and France.
Investigators believe the deceased, an 88-year-old man, had been dead for about three weeks.
They say the driver may have been taking him home to Switzerland.
The body, believed to be the driver s partner, had started to decompose. It was covered with a blanket and was wearing a seatbelt, reports Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
