Mutamba expressed his happiness over his return and stated his ambition to help the club going forward.
“It feels great to be here once more. Sofapaka to me is home and I don’t feel all too new here, the forward said. I am glad the coach has shown confidence in me and I am looking forward to rewarding his trust in me by performing.”
Mutamba saw his expected move to Libyan side Asswehly SC fall through when talks with Bidco United did not succeed towards the end of January. The lanky striker had been signed by the Thika club at the beginning of the 2020/21 season as a free agent after being dropped by Wazito FC alongside 12 other players.
According to Kalekwa, they have now closed business on signing foreign players as they have reached the required quota of five players.
“We have now closed our business to sign foreign players because we have reached the required quota,” Kalekwa told
Goal on Tuesday.
“We have already signed three players and we already had two in our squad and since none of them is going out, we are finished with the business.
“We have added three quality players into our rank, and I am happy the transfers were completed without a hitch, the three players were our targets when the window opened, so we have managed to net the players we had planned to sign and it is a closed chapter now.”
On signing the player, Sofapaka coach Ken Odhiambo said: “Timothy [Otieno] is a very good striker, we are delighted to have him with us. He comes on board with a lot of experience having turned out for Harambee Stars and a stint with Napsa Stars in the Zambia top-flight league. I believe he will bolster our attacking options up front.”
Otieno, who has also featured for champions Gor Mahia, managed to score 14 goals for the Brewers in the 2019-20 season but the league was prematurely ended owing to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was after his stellar display with Tusker that Napsa came calling for his services, and he signed for them on September 8, 2020, a move that saw him link up with other Kenyan players in the Zambian league.
