captioning sponsored by cbs this is the cbs evening news. mason: good evening. i m anthony mason. a promise made before christmas is fizzling before the fourth of july. president-elect trump told hundreds of carrier workers he brokered a deal to save their jobs. but it s not work out that way. the jobs are going south. here s dean reynolds. reporter: a steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that 600 union employees at this carrier manufacturing plant will soon be out of work. where are the 600 jobs going? they re going to monterey, mexico. reporter: robert james is the president of the local union. do you feel betrayed? yes. reporter: betrayed because when president-elect trump visited the carrier plant last december, he boasted that he was saving 1100 jobs. and by the way, that number is going to go up very substantially as they expand this area, this plant. so the 1100 is going to be a minimum number.
