Townships don’t usually have safe swimming pools which children can use to work toward their professional swimming dreams. Having been one of one of those children, Lumka Menye dreams of a Soweto that not only has a swimming culture but that heals through swimming.
Ntombizanele Mntsizela committed suicide after poisoning three of her four children with ‘tank pills’, a rat poison available on the streets of Lusikisiki.
“I found a lot of pills stashed in a tin hidden inside the bucket. I immediately recognised them as ipilisi ze ntaki (aluminium phosphide). “I remember wondering why mom would have them. So I took them, hid them under my T-shirt and threw them away. “Unfortunately, I mistakenly dropped one of the pills.”
