Elgin Area School District U-46 will honor the academic success and accomplishments of graduating seniors who rank in the top two percent of their class at 6 p.m. Monday, May 10, inside the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. The ceremony will be live-streamed and archived on the School District U-46 YouTube channel.
The 47 students are the top-achieving graduates from the district s five comprehensive high schools, and they are also featured as part of the district s Class of 2021 website section, and through a series of social media posts.
Also Monday, the board of education will recognize Maggie Schroeder, a coordinator with Project Access, the district s homeless education program, which supports nearly 1,000 students annually. Schroeder identifies students in temporary living situations and assists them to enroll, attend, and succeed in school. Woods implored her students to email her their drafts. “I love to read what you guys write,” she said.
Coronavirus Coverage The classroom at Pottstown Middle School was quiet. Most of Woods’ students don’t speak aloud during class, instead typing questions in the chat. Keeping them engaged is a struggle: On a recent Thursday, one student logged out after 30 seconds. Another joined 26 minutes after class began.
