Iowa City landlord looks to settle eviction case against local business owner Zachary Oren Smith, Iowa City Press-Citizen After bringing two lawsuits against his tenant, an Iowa City landlord is now looking to settle with the local business owner he was trying to evict. A small-claims court hearing scheduled for Thursday was postponed by a month to give the parties a chance to reach an agreement. Alan Marks of Midwest Development and Investment, a residential and commercial real estate company based in Fairfield, brought Naa Tackie of NaNa’s African Boutique and Gift Shop in Iowa City to court for allegedly not paying her rent. But the filings from the case show three instances when Tackie attempted to pay, each met by Marks company refusing to accept the money, the Press-Citizen reported this week
