Pakistan, Afghanistan extend timeline to facilitate trade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan have given another six months extension to an agreement for facilitating the movement of goods between and through their respective territories.
Both sides signed a six-month extension of Afghanistan-Pakistan-Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) on Thursday. The signing ceremony was held via video link simultaneously in Kabul and Islamabad. It is expected that the new APTTA will be signed next month. The countries last extended the facilitative protocol in April. The APTTA that was signed originally in 2010 had expired in February. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports to the UK saw a double-digit increase during the last fiscal year of 2020/21, crossing the two-billion-dollar mark for the first time despite Brexit uncertainties, according to the ministry of commerce on Friday.
The commerce ministry announced that exports to the UK increased 33 percent to $2.025 billion during the last fiscal year compared to $1.526 billion in the preceding fiscal year, an increase of $499 million.
“The UK is a very important trading partner and is the first time that our exports have crossed $2 billion mark,” Adviser to Prime Minister Commerce and Investment Razak Dawood wrote on Twitter. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports are estimated to have crossed $31 billion during the last fiscal year of 2020/21 with goods shipments breaking high records made for year and month, commerce adviser said on Thursday.
Adviser to Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment Razak Dawood said exports of goods for FY2021 amounted to $25.3 billion, which are the highest-ever exports of goods in the country’s history, he said and cited the previous highest of $25.1 billion in 2013/14.
Similarly, exports of goods in June 2021 were highest for any month in the history at $2.7 billion. The previous highest was $2.6 billion in September 2013. Further, export of services during FY2021 was estimated at 5.9 million. ....

ISLAMABAD: Government will release Rs8 billion under drawback of local taxes and levies (DLTL) claims of industries from Friday (tomorrow) to help them overcome liquidity crunch, commerce adviser said on Wednesday.
Adviser to Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment Razak Dawood said the fund will be transferred starting from 2nd July. “I hope that this will facilitate the cash flow issues of our business exporters and strengthens their production,” Dawood wrote on Twitter.
The government has allocated Rs20 billion for DLTL scheme in the budget 2021/22 despite demand of textile exporters, who are the main claimants, to increase the allocation to at least Rs75 billion to clear backlog and new duty drawback of taxes (DDT) / DLTL claims. ....
