A UCD senior academic for 40 years, Ailbhe Smyth was founder of the Women’s Education, Research and Resource Centre (WERRC) at the university and was head of women’s studies. Smyth was co-director of the ‘Together for Yes’ referendum campaign and spokesperson for the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment. She was also strategic advisory for the Marriage Equality referendum. Born in Dublin, she was conferred with the Freedom of the City of Dublin in 2022.
