Giant crane in Manitowoc nearly done, Gov. Tony Evers praises project


MANITOWOC - Gov. Tony Evers was on hand Thursday to praise completion of a giant crane manufactured in the city that will soon make a voyage through the Great Lakes and down the Atlantic Ocean to a coastal United States Navy station.
The project was made possible with the help of $3.75 million in grant money from the state Department of Transportation’s Harbor Assistance Program. Improvements allowed Konecranes and Broadwind Heavy Fabrications to assemble, test and transfer cranes that can lift 140-ton loads for the Navy. More such contracts are expected to come for the next decade, Broadwind CEO Eric Blashford said. ....
