Loved one s care. we cannot go back to these days where we put the insurance companies back in charge, again. this is an interesting point that kathleen sebelius just made to me. before the affordable care act, people could buy junk policy. this fixation we have on premiums, there s a really easy way to lower premiums. allow people to sell policies that don t cover anything. the trump administration has allowed for. so, when we get fixated on premiums, we forget that premiums cover certain things that the affordable care act made sure that they covered, made sure my insurance policies cover it and yours and people who buy private insurance. we talked about some of them. make sure that essential benefits are covered. preventative care. we also got rid of annual limits and lifetime limits, caps that after which the insurance companies wouldn t pay any more. and, you know, earlier today i had the chance to share the story of one of my constituents.
Solutions. i love the notion this is katrina. i went through the oil spill, which was obama s first katrina. exactly. look, again, i think there s no in sentive for them to hedge. but the stakes every single day as we get closer not to the end of the year but march 31st, the stakes get higher every day. they are important to get right. from an insurance company perspective, washington rejected administrative fix. tell us why it s not good for washington state. washington state has an exchange working incredibly well in comparison to federally facilitated in 36 states. we re enrolling people left and right and we re really proceeding very quickly now to implement the affordable care act just as president obama wants to do. for us it would be a disruption in our market the insurance companies wouldn t like. as a regulator, i d find tough to implement when we have a system up and working in the state of washington. you know, brian, it s worth
Wildfires. it is costing them for what they are seeing now. whether that is colorado s i don t know. should it still be a federal program? it is a tough call. mother nature strikes wherever she wants to. we had floods in new jersey and people lost homes in places you would imagine. one of the things we need to do as a nation is help people. you live on the coast, you are choosing that and putting yourself in the line of fire. but there has to be help for people for people like in nashville who are under water in a blank blink of an eye. a lot of private insurance companies wouldn t insure you because you are living in an hurricane zone. would the federal government that i can that stance. you are make sound like a black and white thing that everybody would bail out people and not help others.
