An Unexploded Ordnance is seen lying on the ground in a wooded area. UXOs are often found on military training areas by Soldiers during training operations, or by civilian hunters walking in areas where live fire training operations have previously been performed.

The sign says “Beware of UXOs”. For those unfamiliar with the term, it may conjure up visions of aliens from another world, Roswell New Mexico, X-files and other unidentified flying objects. However, most Soldiers and their families know that UXO, refers to “Unexploded Ordnance”, and the term is a familiar one. When dealing with UXOs the most important fact to remember is that your personal behavior when confronted with a UXO could mean the difference of you walking away safely unharmed versus foolishly inviting or experiencing a severe injury.
