Vedanta and Taiwan s Innolux are set to produce LCD displays in India after government approval, with mass production expected within 18-24 months. The joint venture aims to establish a manufacturing unit at an estimated cost of USD 3-4 billion. The proposal, submitted to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, seeks incentives under the semiconductor and display fab ecosystem program.

Driven by the expectation of rising prices, LCD TV panels have maintained a healthy inventory. The stable stock demand has pushed up price quotes in June, which continue to rise. As for IT panels, LCD monitor panel price increases have been expanding ever since a partial price increase began back in April. It s expected that there will be more price increases in June. Meanwhile, notebook panel prices have remained unchanged.
Innolux will accelerate its diversified deployment strategy and prioritize its investments in upgrading existing product lines and developing others for non-panel applications to avoid being caught in the volatile business cycle of the display industry.
