[이미디어= 김한결 기자] 국립산림과학원(원장 박현)은 황폐화돼 가고 있는 탄소저장고인 이탄지를 복원하고 지역주민의 소득을 높이는 산림 공적개발원조(ODA) 모델을 개발하기 위해 국제임업연구센터(CIFOR)와 국제공동연구 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이탄지(泥炭地·peatland)는 식물 잔해가 침수 상태에서 잘 분해되지 못하고 수천 년에 걸쳐 퇴적되면서 형성된 유기물 토지이다. 전세계 식물이 흡수하는 탄소량의 두 배 이상을 저장할 수 있으며, 일반 토양보다 탄소저장량이 10배 이상 높아 지구의 탄소저장고 역할을 한다. 특히 인도네시아는 전 세 ....
