place where there was tremendous negotiation, led, you know, in large part because the progressive caucus insisted that we were not going to let one bill go without the or the. so we now have the text, it should be pretty easy for senator manchin to go through and make sure that the text agrees with that framework that we all endorsed, that we all agreed to and that was the basis of the promise on which the president made his promise to us. so, you know, this is a critical moment, i m not saying we re going to take anything he will agree to, i m saying go back to what he agreed to because we endorsed that and it contained the vast majority of our priorities. has it turned out to be a lot more difficult to get the party to walk and chew gum? and i say this in this respect, both the income inequality issue in this country i think could eventually tear this country apart long term, and the current issue with the democracy is something that could tear us apart even quicker than that.
idea of things that he was going to do for them. i don t remember any sign that says cut corporate taxes. we are in an economy where corporate profitability is high, stock market performance is very high, interest rates are very low, capital is available. so just call it a corporate tax cut and let s not pretend that it s going to make house holdho richer. this is clearly a win for corporations, they re clearly getting a cut, but it might not help the average american. if it doesn t, it only exacerbates this awful income inequality issue that the country is plagued with. there are ways to help the average american. expanded child tax credit. you can even cut the lowest brackets even further because i think we accept in a plrogressie income tax system that the lowest earners are not supposed to be carrying the burden. as you earn more, you carry the burden. and those lowest earners, who may be eligible to get those credits, need programs and need to be taught how do they file
here over the last few weeks. it feels like something changed for hillary clinton because she did seem to have solid leads in iowa. she seemed to be performing better in new hampshire. what changed over the last two weeks to change this? i think people started fo focusing a little more on their candidates, as happens after christmas. hillary clinton has been behind in new hampshire by varying degrees and we have one poll recently showed them neck and neck. now she s really behind. new hampshire has always been a bit problematic for her. the focus on iowa, as dan was saying, is really important. and i think that people like bernie sanders. i spoke with the vice president yesterday about this. and his point was that bernie sanders has a lot of credibility on the income inequality issue because he s been talking about it his entire career. so if you re worried about, that
