India s Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai after heavy rains in the city. Predicting moderate to heavy showers on Monday, the IMD has reported that Mumbai s eastern and western suburbs have so far received heavy rainfall without reports of waterlogging anywhere in the city.
Municipal commissioner and state-appointed administrator Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that Mumbai was experiencing heavy rain combined with high tide, which prevented the water from accumulation from draining away., Mumbai News, Times Now
The India Meteorological Department issued an ‘orange alert for Mumbai on Tuesday, referring to the heavy-to-very-heavy showers expected in the next 24 hours. It may result in overflowed rivers, waterlogging, and damage to power and communication networks. While train services on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Belapur route in the city continue to running albeit with some delay, the Panvel-Belapur Harbour Line route has been affected to a "point failure" at Panvel at 9.40 am. The western region of the city has not been reported with any significant water-logging.
IMD Mumbai said, "Nowcast warning issued at 8:00 am. Moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar during the next 3-4 hours."
