Zimbabwe star claims they are selling chickens to survive during the

Feb 19, 2021 - 09:00 am By Staff Reporter Zimbabwe international defender Ian Nekati has revealed they have resorted to selling chickens in order to survive whilst their league has been inactive for more than one year. Nekati, 31, has emerged as one of the leading performers for the national team since making his debut in 2019 and captained the side at the African Nations Championship last year. The right-back was subject of interest from DStv Premiership sides Baroka and Cape Town City but eventually joined Chicken Inn from ZPC Kariba after failing to agree on personal terms. However, his rising career has come to a dramatic standstill since the Covid-19 pandemic halted life and professional football in Zimbabwe.

Captain apologises | The Standard

Captain apologises BY MUNYARADZI MADZOKERE WARRIORS captain Ian Nekati has apologised for the team’s dismal performance at the African Nations Championship (Chan) finals after Zimbabwe lost all its group matches to crash out of the competition hosted by Cameroon. Three matches, three defeats, one goal scored and five conceded at the continental event reserved for players in local leagues told a dismal story. It was Zimbabwe’s worst performance in a record five appearances at the biennial event since its inauguration in 2009. Nekati, who was appointed captain on the eve of the team’s departure to Cameroon, had to apologised  on behalf of the team which arrived back home on Wednesday.
