Atop a windswept ridge between two wild canyons, the town of Paradise is rebuilding for a hotter, drier climate an inspiration for other California towns at risk of nature’s whims and man’s mistakes. Its people are changing, too.
It’s a natural human tendency to not value something until it’s gone. Not this time. They were so grateful that a newspaper was there to keep them informed. They saw what journalism, at its best, could do for a community. I hoped the lesson would last in the public’s consciousness.
