Earthquakes and aftershocks struck Humboldt County early Monday morning. The largest, originating east of Petrolia, was a magnitude 4.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A 352 plus acre wildfire in the Six Rivers National Forest burned into the Hoopa Reservation. Residents around Willow Creek on Facebook reported hot ash falling from the sky and posted videos of clouds of orange smoke billowing over ridges. Much of Humboldt County woke to smoke from a number of wildfires, many caused by a dry lightning storm.

Following the earthquake, more than 70,000 customers were without power in the surrounding area, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.
