Haverhill Cultural Council Awards More Than $40K for Concerts, Block Party, Theater, More

During the season ahead, Haverhill residents and visitors will be able to take part in a cultural fair and a Boardwalk Block Party, learn about printing, hear concerts, enjoy theatrical productions and more thanks to more than $40,000 in grants recently awarded by the Haverhill Cultural Council. The state money was awarded to local nonprofits, individuals and local business leaders delivering activities and programs for students, seniors and children. Specific offerings include Haverhill YMCA Learning Pods, Self-Care for Haverhill Senior Citizens, “Chainsaws, Cheeseburgers and Rock and Roll” and “Musical Baseball Show.”

Grants awarded by Bedford Cultural Council

Wicked Local State Sen. Mike Barrett, state Rep. Ken Gordon, Town Manager Sarah Stanton, and Bedford Cultural Council Chair Barbara Purchia,  announced the award of 35 grants totaling $11,400 for cultural programs in Bedford or for Bedford residents.   “This is a wonderful and creative slate of Bedford Cultural Council grants. During the pandemic, arts and culture are more vital than ever in terms of the strength and fabric of the Bedford community and for our residents quality of life, ” Stanton said in a release.  According to Purchia, there were a record number of applications, many from first time applicants. “These grants ensure that Bedford’s wealth of cultural groups will continue to thrive,” Barrett said. “From the looks of it, local volunteers buckled down and stretched every dollar to support an impressive 35 organizations.”

 Acrylic Still Life Painting (on Zoom): 10 a.m. to noon; Five Wednesdays: Jan. 27; Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24. In this Zoom class taught by Donna Calleja, students will learn acrylic painting techniques from the direct observation of an object or composed still life. We will learn and refine skills in color mixing, composition, under painting and paint application techniques. Students will arrange a still life composition to interpret in an original acrylic painting and will be encouraged to explore different painting styles.
