The storm drenched public transit, highways, streets and homes in just a few hours and brought much of the city to a standstill. Ida s aftermath wreaked havoc across much of philadelphia, swamping road ways and forcing rivers to rise by feet. In new jersey, towns were swamped with water while tornadoes rampaged across several communities. This storm has now killed from maryland to connecticut at least 43 people. It is one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit the mainland. Officials say at least two people were killed. Search and rescue operations are still underway in communities along the gulf.
