The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba Ewuare Ogidigan (11), has approved the sack of the presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao, for alleged non-compliance with ancient long tradition of the land
The decision was jointly taken by the traditional head of the church, HRM Oba Ewuare the second, joint elders committee and top palace chiefs after Okao was found guilty of violating the long-standing rules of the church.
A statement by Benin Traditional Council (BTC) Secretary, Mr Frank Irabor, said the removal of the former top priest of the church would restore sanity and lasting peace to the foremost Benin national church.

THE Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II has suspended Mr. Harrison Okao as Ohenosa of Holy Arousa Cathedral over alleged unauthorised ministration.
A statement by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Frank Irabor said the suspension is based on recommendation from the Joint Elders Committee of the Cathedral and some senior chiefs of the Benin palace.
He said the suspension was predicated upon “long-standing lingering breach and non-charlatan by Okao over several years and age-long custom and tradition.
“This decision is expected to bring lasting peace, sanity and tranquillity to the holy spiritual environment that is imperative in the Holy Aruosa Cathedral of Benin which has hitherto been absent in the Holy Arousa because of the non-compliance with tradition and custom by Harrison Okao over several years,” the statement added.

Citing persistent non-compliance with the tradition by the Chief Priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Akpakpa road, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Eware II on Thursday approved the removal of Priest Harrison Okao, as the Ohenosa of the Holy Aruosa Cathedral of Benin, also known as Benin National Church.
A statement by the secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor explained that the removal was as a result of a long-standing lingering breach and nonchalance over the years by the chief priest pertaining to the age-old custom and tradition regarding the continuous authorised officiating as Ohenosa at the Cathedral.
