affecting your lives already. holiday headache. hundreds of flights canceled across the united states as omicron knocks airlines out of business by taking out staff. that is flight attendants and pilots incapable of coming into work because of positive tests s from omicron. this is what it looked like in terms of flight cancellations, 248 on thursday. 688 canceled flights yesterday. and today a scheduled 820 canceled flights. that left, carley and todd, some very angry travelers. watch this. we have been traveling for 30 hours and we didn t know what to do. and christmas here. we have our already. we are here for the connection and then all of the sudden when we came, we saw the canceled. they said it s canceled we don t know now what s going to be the next step.
and storms are making it a struggle for millions of americans to get home. drivers are delayed and flyers are frustrated on this record travel day. the rush to return home is turning into a day of disruptions. americans are facing full freeways and jam-packed airports, with bad weather and omicron fueled staff shortages giving travelers a holiday headache. sat on the tarmac for an hour and a half. holiday air travel is up 184% from 2020 as flight delays and cancellations pile up across the country. at chicago midway international airport, winter weather forced more than half of flights to be scrapped. reporter: how long do you think it will take the airlines to rebound from the delays and cancellations over the holiday? that is a tough call. it really kind of depends how they work with their staffing and the weather, it is really taking a lot of hard hits on the airlines. we hope to get through in the next week or two but it will take some time.
